Are you finding yourself wanting to stand on a soap box & give moving speeches so that our country discontinues to go in a direction opposite from the intent of our founding fathers?  Me too!  I find that the frustration that I have  been feeling is mounting & there is no good outlet to turn to… I am afraid that my politics might get mixed in with our philosophies of good heath & vitality… so I ask for your forgiveness in advance…

My son loves the idea of being a Knight or Hero to those in need… his desire seems to be genuine with a focus on duty & heavenly responsibility… His prayers are consistently full of concern for the homeless, hungry & ill… It is exciting to see these valiant spirits grow strong and noble!

There are many lists of the Knightly Virtues, but the most simplistic of these lists seem to be from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightly_Virtues)

“Knightly Virtues (or the Virtues of a Knight) were part of a medieval chivalric code of honor. The virtues were a set of ’standards’ that Knights of the High Middle Ages tried to adhere to in their daily living and interactions with others. Today, this term still carries similar meanings.[1]

Cross used by the Order of St. John

Some organizations attempt to continue this tradition. The Emblem of the Order of St. John, (an organization that can be traced back to the Knights Hospitaller) does have a meaning behind it. [2]

The emblem of the Order is a white eight-pointed cross embellished in the four principal angles alternately with a lion passant guardant and a unicorn passant. The four arms of the cross signify the cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude. The eight points signify the beatitudes: Humility, Compassion, Courtesy, Devotion, Mercy, Purity(very important), Peace and Endurance.

There is no definitive list of virtues, and other proposed virtues include:[1]

The list of virtues has changed over time. In the Middle Ages, skills like Horsemanship were also considered one amongst these ideals. [3]

Don’t you just love these darling youth… Our Modern Day Knights!  God Bless Them & Grant Them Victory In Their Battles!

I have been sick all day… stuck in bed and have been watching the History Channel’s Series on The Seven Deadly Sins…

It is absolutely fascinating…

The bible does not list the seven deadly sins together, but does list them separately…

The original list of the seven deadly sins came from (375 A.D.) Evagrius Ponticus‘ list of the 8 most evil temptations (????????) that are the thoughts seen as the roots of all sin.  Ponticus left Constantinople as one in exile to join a monastery in Egypt and compiled a list of the temptations that lure priests/monks to Hell.  His 8 thoughts of temptation were gluttony, fornication, avarice, sorrow (tristia), acedia, anger, vainglory, and pride.  (http://www.ldysinger.com/Evagrius/04_Peri-Log/00a_start.htm)

In 590 A.D. Pope Gregory I, took Evagrius’ list of temptations & turned it into a list of 7 deadly sins, combining Acedia (apathy or discouragement) and Tristia (sadness or sorrow) into “Sloth”.  Vainglory was also changed to be part of Pride.  Envy was then added.

Gluttony = Gluttony

Fornication = Lust

Avarice = Greed

Acedia & Sorrow = Sloth

Anger = Anger

Vainglory & Pride = Pride

PG,I Added – Envy

Eventually, The Church then came out with The Seven Heavenly Virtues to counter The Seven Deadly Sins.

Chastity – Lust

Temperance – Gluttony

Charity – Greed

Diligence – Sloth

Patience – Wrath

Kindness – Envy

Humility – Pride

Justice – Corruption

It is all very fascinating… I could go on and on with the intellectual and spiritual ramifications of these doctrines…

Did you write down your New Year’s Resolutions?

I felt inspired to keep mine to the traditional 5 Categories:

1.) Spiritual – Write in a Spiritual Journal daily with my scripture of the day

2.) Intellectual – Finish my curriculum for 7 basic language courses – (French, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Latin & Hebrew)

3.) Physical – Exercise 3-4 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes a day (Yoga, Pilates, Walking & Weight Training) and resist any feelings of gluttony

4.) Family – Having a daily “kindness clearing” with the family either before or after family prayer & scripture so that we have a safe outlet for communication for everyone to feel heard, loved & supported

5.) Community – Help support more adults & children get involved in a quality Girl Scout or Boy Scout program

Too much???  I think so too…  ;-)

We’ll give it a try though!

Why did Christ Fast For So Long?

Have you ever wondered that?

It is quite amazing really… just as all of Christ’s life…

40 Days & 40 Nights?  What would happen if someone did that nowadays?

Well, I think that they could easily die if they tried that… I suppose that it would depend on many things, the strength of the body, its ability to preserve & conserve, how hydrated the body was in the beginning, whether or not they continued hydrating or not, etc…

Yes, I believe that you would be seeing & interacting with angels & possibly demons, but I imagine that it would be because you are half in this realm & half in the next…

The regulation of food/nutrition, hydration/pure water, sleep/serotonin, dopamine/love or good feelings have a lot to do with good health and wellness I believe…

This is a subject that I would enjoy studying… Wouldn’t You?

Dr. Elmer Towns writes about the nine disciplines of fasting in his book called Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough: http://www.mbbcirving.org/fileadmin/pdf/Fasting%20Book%20Elmer%20Towns.pdf

“The Nine Disciplines of Fasting
1. To loosen the bonds of wickedness, i.e., break addiction (The
Apostle’s Fast);
2. To undo heavy burdens, i.e., to solve problems, as Sherry and
Dave did (The Ezra Fast);
3. To let the oppressed go free, i.e., revival and evangelism (The
Samuel Fast);
4. To break every yoke, i.e., to overcome emotional habits (The
Elijah Fast);
5. To give bread to the hungry and provide the poor with
housing (The Widow’s Fast);
6. To allow light to break forth like the morning, i.e., insight
(The St. Paul Fast);
7. To cause health to spring forth speedily, i.e., for healing (The
Daniel Fast);
8. To cause righteousness to go before them, for your testimony
(The John the Baptist Feast); and
9. To cause the glory of the Lord to be their reward (or “rear
guard,” NIV), i.e., for protection from evil (The
Esther Fast).
To better illustrate and bring out the significance of these
nine reasons for fasting, I have chosen nine Biblical characters
whose lives personified the literal or figurative theme of each of
the nine results of fasting highlighted in Isaiah 58:6-8.
Each fast has a different name, accomplishes a different
purpose, and follows a different prescription.”

This is a wonderful book and a fascinating subject… I think it is important to specify that they fasted for 24 hours at a time.

More than that I believe that people should consult their doctor & have someone with them to guide them, hydrate them & keep them grounded if they desire to do more than the 24 hours… It can be very dangerous & must be for a specific purpose, guided in prayer & have a purpose that is very specific… There are doctors who specialize in such things, but I believe that they should supervise all fasts that they suggest… Fasting can create miracles & amazing healing, but they really are dangerous for the undisciplined & even for the disciplined as well!

Dr. Elmer Towns’ Book is quite simple & interesting… I think you will enjoy it!

Is Cancer Something That You Can Cure Naturally?

Well, that is a loaded question…

There are those who swear that they were cured of their cancer by drinking only carrot juice, others orange juice, others organic fruits & veggies, etc…

Some say that prayer alone cure them, others say meditation & mantras…

I guess all of these are possible, but I imagine that there was a series of things that contributed to each of these people’s cases if we were to investigate further… Let’s…
